ALS AWARENESS IDEAS FOR TEENS:
- Sign up to be an advocate on national ALSA website & forward link to your friends & family inviting them to join you.
- Know your legislators & make sure they know you.
- Contact your local chapter & see what resources they have available to help--wristbands, t-shirts, brochures, banners.
- Wear a Strike Out ALS wristband & share them!
- Offer "team-building" opportunities for your parents' & relatives' work place to support ALS.
- Include ALSA national link to sign up to be an advocate on your "My Space" or "Facebook" profile. http://capwiz.com/alsa/home/
- Ask your school to list your ALSA chapter as an approved organization for completing community service requirements.
- Contact government classes & clubs to become advocates & become involved in influencing legislators.
- Use baseball tie-in & designate a school baseball game/tourney in honor of Lou Gehrig - share information, sell wristbands and magnets.
- Contact driving schools, ask them to hand out Strike Out ALS car magnets & bumper stickers to new drivers.
ALS FUNDRAISING IDEAS FOR TEENS:
- Create a Walk to D'Feet School Team:
Teams of Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors can host a friendly competition within the different grades. Most school clubs have "community service" included in their roles & responsibilities. Latin Clubs, Math Clubs, etc. ... invite them all.
- Hold an Exhibition Tournament at School:
Organize a tournament after school and all entry fees benefit your ALSA chapter. Basketball, baseball, softball are always good. Dodgeball or Cornhole are very easy to do.
- Ask a Local Video Game Store to Host an "After Hours" Video Game Tournament:
Again, entry fees benefit your ALSA chapter. Retailers don't mind hosting these, since it gets people to the store. Get a local pizza place to donate pizzas and earn additional $ by selling pizza.
- Caps for a Cure:
Students and teachers pay $1 (or $5 or any designated amount) to wear their favorite cap/hat to school for a day.
- "Create Your Own Theme"
Create a theme based on the students' interests.
For example, "Chew Gum Day" or "Long Lunch Day." Anything that seems to interest the students can be used to help generate fundraising and enthusiasm.
- Feet Sale Campaign
Students and teachers sell paper feet for $1. Post the colorful paper feet throughout the school in hallways, classrooms, or in cafeteria. Paper feet can be ordered through your local Chapter.
Consider having a competition between grade levels and assign each grade a color. This is especially successful in high schools: students love to compete against the senior class!! Or students can sell feet for different prices. For example, $1 for yellow, $2 for red and $5 for green! Students turn in sold feet and money to the teacher every morning and display on the school walls. Dollars are tallied at the end of the month.
- Coins for ALS
Students collect change from families, friends and neighbors to help cure ALS. Use a clear plastic container so students can see the coins add up!
- Cell Phones in School... A Good Thing?
The average U.S. household is holding on to three used cell phones. Many of these phones are worth money, up to $100 each. Recycling cell phones can bring money to The ALS Association and teaches students about recycling. Put a large box in a main office at the school. Once a month, check the box and mail in the cell phones for pure profit! Simply visit www.phoneraiser.com, and the website will send you postage for the phones.
- Hoops for Hope
At half time during a basketball game, let people pay $1 or $5 to shoot three baskets. If a person gets 3 in a row, have a small prize for them to take home or offer an item free at the concession stand.
- Set a Goal to Raise $200 in One Week!
